"2004 NPHA Big Game Male of the Year"

Drum is now deceased...a great loss to the Plott breed!

While we don't own a hair on this Plott dog, he is a Bear Pen-bred Plott and we are proud to offer him at stud here on PlottDogs.com for our good friend Evan Workman.

This is not the first time a Bear Pen dog has won the NPHA Big Game Award. CH Bear Pen Fancy received that honor in 1984, twenty years ago. Fancy appears twice in Drum's pedigree in the fourth and fifth generations.

Here's what Evan had to say about CH Tacy Hills Deperado, kennel name "Drum" when the great dog was alive:

DRUM is a 65 pound saddleback Plott.

DRUM was entered in only three shows to earn his UKC Show Champion degree.

DRUM has been in four PKC hunts, two of which he got in the money, and has also placed in PKC bench show events.

After bear hunting DRUM it was determined that he was a greater asset to me as a bear hound rather than a coondog. DRUM ran and treed on the first bear he ever smelled. From that day on there wasn't much training to do. All you had to do was turn him loose. He was truly a natural.

DRUM was a very cold nosed dog that could be freecasted and trusted. He would stay with a mean bear. Here is a photo of Drum after catching a West Virginia bruin in the 2005 season:

DRUM'S most impressive trait was his speed and ruggedness. He was one of the fastest hounds I ever saw and would continue to be fast after five or six straight days of hunting.

Rest in peace, Drum. Your amazing abilities as a bear dog will never be forgotten.
