Nite Champion Champion Bear Pen Plott Bronco is our all-time favorite spanning 52 years of Bear Pen hounds.

Bronco was a coon dog without peer among hounds that have been kenneled here. He was a layup artist of the first order but could also easily gear down and cold trail an old feed track and put a coon in a tree at the end. He was a master at the art of having the coon when hunting with a cast of hounds that were missing.

Bronco won the All-Plott hunt at the 1986 NPHA Plott Days in Laingsburg, Michigan hunting against Grand Nite Champion competition. He won the hunt by treeing real live raccoons when it counted.

Bronco was also a tremendous bear dog. His contemporaries in the Bear Pen pack were CH Bear Pen Fancy and Bear Pen Plott Little Butch, both sired by Weems Butch and out of Weems Jill. Bronco was a hard fighting, close baying dog on a bear on the ground. He was a tremendous tree dog and had the nose, speed, and grit to catch and tree bear with the best of company of good hounds or alone. He was hunted on bear in the rugged southern West Virginia mountains until past 10 years of age. He died on March 30, 1992 at the age of 15 years.

Bronco had as much heart as I have ever seen in a hound. He hunted one whole hunting season here in Michigan on three legs after injuring a front leg. He treed three coons one night by himself with the other hounds treeing none, while on three legs.

Bronco's sire, Cascade Big Timber was one of the highest acclaimed bear dogs that ever lived. His dam, Tarleton's Roberta was a great bear dog in her own right. She had outstanding litter mates including Houston's Junior, Creasman's Killer, and GRNITECH Ballard's Carolina Judy.

Bronco produced several top Bear Pen hounds including the following that were kenneled here: CH Bronco's Fancy Julie, CH Bear Pen Fancy II, CH Bear Pen Bronco's Pride (Lefty), Bear Pen Plott Punch, Bear Pen Bronco's Ghost, Bear Pen Plott Abby, Bear Pen Bronco Billy, and Bear Pen Plott Tammy. Each of these dogs were tree dogs that would catch game.
