" A third-generation Bear Pen Plott."

Bear Pen Plott Blackie is the female component of the foundation upon which the modern day Bear Pen bloodline is built. She was the hound we hoped to reproduce with the mating of Bear Pen Santina Grande, her granddaughter, to Hill’s Plott Solaman, her son. The mating in April of 1993 produced PKC Super Stakes Sire, GR CH Nite CH Bear Pen Rio Grande Roper and his littermates Bear Pen Plott Rube and Bear Pen Mountain Steele.

Blackie was hunted mainly on coon due to excelling at the craft at an early age. Her littermate, CH Bear Pen Plott Dixie was a coon and bear hound of the better class.

Blackie ran with a rolling chop and treed with a never-ending loud chop mouth. She was extremely fast on track and passed her outstanding ability to move a track with speed on to her offspring. When we hunted Blackie and Nite Champion Champion Bronco as a pair, we were confident we were hunting as fine a pair of hounds as were alive in that day.

Blackie was bred four times, producing outstanding pups in three of the four litters when bred to Bear Pen Plott Little Butch, to Nite CH CH Bear Pen Plotts Bronco and to Nite CH Weems Plott Punie. The cross to Bronco produced several good hounds including CH Bronco’s Fancy Julie, the granddam of Rio Grande Roper.

The cross to Punie was outstanding with all of the pups making top hounds. One of those hounds was Hill’s Plott Solaman, shown here with his owner Charlie Hill. Solaman was the sire of GR CH Nite CH Rio Grande Roper and Nite CH Piney River Wrangler
